2007 Race commences at 7:15am and 7:45am November 4th

  • Cairns only adventure racing organisers, Adventure HQ continue a proven format of adventure racing in Far North Queensland aimed at having fun in the outdoors. The James Grant Memorial Race will be staged in the beautiful Goldsborough (Mulgrave River) Valley with a multisport format familiar to most.
  • There are two events to choose from: 
    • 4 hour multisport
    • 7 hour multisport
  • Both events can be raced as a team of 2 or a relay of up to 6.

Format
  • Unsupported event – support crews are not necessary but are welcome
  • Multisport format - similar to Redlynch Valley Estate Multisport Race.
Detail:
  • Teams of 2 ; NO individuals.
  • Teams can be all Male, all Female or Mixed. We will recognise and reward winners in these categories.
  • Teams can consist of 3-6 people in relay.
  • All team entry payments [via online website] must be made by PayPal or Direct Deposit before acceptance of entry

  • Heaps of random draws for competitors and volunteers.
  • Minimum age 15 years with parental approval.
  • Hike, Paddle & Mountain Bike legs.
  • 15K, 16K & 22K for 7 hour course.
  •   6k, 10k  & 13k for 4 hour course.
  • You supply MTB and if you wish supply your own two person Canoe or can hire a craft. Hire craft are limited

4 hour race – commences November 4th at 7:45am

This event has been designed for those who are moderately fit and are tapering for the Christmas Season. The aim is to experience adventure racing in a format that is fun in the outdoors. It involves hiking/running, canoeing on a glorious river and mountain biking. Leaders are expected to finish in 2 ½ hours with most finished in 4.5 hours.

7 hour race – commences November 4th at 7:15am sharp

This event has been designed for the fitter athlete with some racing background. The aim is to create a challenge for the leaders but make it an adventure in the outdoors that is achievable by all competitors. With a hike/run then canoeing leg then a mountain bike ride leaders are expected to finish in about 4 ½ hours with most competitors in under 7 hours. Limited navigation skills are needed for this race.

General:
•   We will be able to camp at Kearney's Flat on Saturday night. Campers will need to pay an additional $4.50 for overnight camping Saturday night.
If not camping, make sure you allow plenty of time to arrive at Kearney's Flat by 6:45am at the latest for a 7:00 am race briefing.


•   Allow 75 minutes to drive from Cairns CBD to Kearneys Flats [Race HQ]
•    We will have canoes for hire at various locations around Cairns. You will need to pick them up and transport them yourselves.
•   Once you have entered, this information will be forwarded to you.

•   Lunch will be provided
•   presentations and Random Draws will be at 2:00pm


The courses:

7 hour

The 7 hour race people will drop their bike (security assured) at the private property directly opposite Peet’s Bridge. When you arrive here in the race you will swap canoe for bike. 7 hour people will drop canoes at the sign posted private house just before Arnold’s Bridge. You will run from Kearney’s Flat to here to get in your boat.

The run will go 5 km upstream from Kearney’s Flat to a turnaround then back through the campground and down to below Arnold’s Bridge. 15km hike, 16km canoe, 22km bike.

•   Paddle the river at least once before the race.

4 hour

You will start at 7:45am. On Sunday Morning you will need to drive into Roos Road Bridge. The turnoff to here is opposite the Mountain View Hotel. Here you will drop your bike (security in place). You will drop your canoe at the private house below Arnold’s Bridge. You run down to your canoe below Arnold’s Bridge. Paddle to Roos Road where you trade canoe for bike.

The ride takes you through two cane farms and back onto the Goldsborough Road and back to Kearney’s Flat.  6km hike, 10km canoe, 13km bike.

•   Paddle the river at least once before the race.
